During the week of August 17, 2014, it was announced that Joan Baez, Stevie Wonder, and Billy Joel will be honored with the prestigious ASCAP Centennial Award as part of a celebration of ASCAP's 100th anniversary.

Also, "Glen Campbell ... I'll Be Me," a documentary about the country music legend which made its premiere last April at the 2014 Nashville Film Festival, will be shown in theaters starting October 24, 2014. (See trailer below.)

Styx, Jefferson Starship, Canned Heat, Country Joe McDonald, Big Brother & the Holding Company, the Edgar Winter Band, Steppenwolf, and Dave Mason are among the featured performers at Boomer Fest Days which takes place this October in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. The Hollies are marking their 50th anniversary with a new compilation album and a European tour that begins this September. Jackson Browne will be releasing a new album this October titled "Standing In The Breach." Two out-of-print Jimi Hendrix albums, "The Cry of Love" and "Rainbow Bridge," are slated to be reissued this September. Also, an album of new songs by various artists based on a collection of long-lost song lyrics Bob Dylan penned in 1967, titled "Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes," will be coming out this November.

Tony Bennett will be appearing on TV this fall with Lady Gaga, with whom he recently recorded a new duets album, in two TV specials: "Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga: Cheek To Cheek" (September 13 on HSN), and "Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!" (October 24 on PBS). The Who will also be making a TV appearance on September 5 in the fundraising telecast, "Stand Up To Cancer," which will be shown on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, HBO, and most other TV stations.

Also that week, John Lennon's murderer, Mark David Chapman, came up for parole which was denied. Johnny Cash's boyhood home in Dyess, Arkansas, which has been in a state of restoration since 2009, was finally opened to the public. Also, in a Billboard magazine interview of Mary Wilson, the former Supreme reflects on the 50th anniversary of the chart-topping "Where Did Our Love Go" and the group's rise to fame during the 1960s.

Finally, if you are a fan of "The Simpsons," you may be able to catch reruns of this show with some of your favorite oldies music acts as animated guests during the show's 12-day marathon on FXX (starting date: August 21, 2014).

August 18, 2014: Upcoming Jackson Browne Album To Feature New Arrangement Of Late 1960s Song

On October 7, 2014, Jackson Browne will be releasing his latest album, "Standing In The Breach." One of this album's main highlights is a new 12-string guitar arrangement of "The Birds Of St. Marks," a song Browne wrote in 1967.

August 18, 2014: Johnny Cash's Boyhood Home Opens To The Public

Since 2009, Johnny Cash's home in Dyess, Arkansas where he grew up has been in a state of restoration. This landmark building was opened to the public on August 16, 2014, and fans can now tour the home in which the Cash family lived from 1935-1953. Rosanne Cash and other family members were among those who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.

August 19, 2014: New Album Of Lost Dylan Lyrics By Various Artists To Be Released

On November 11, 2014, an album of new songs by various artists based on a collection of lyrics Bob Dylan penned in 1967 but never got around to setting to music is scheduled for release. In this upcoming album, titled "Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes," Elvis Costello and several other contemporary artists have taken some of these long-lost unfinished Dylan songs and set them to music.

August 19, 2014: Tony Bennett To Release New Duets Album And Appear On Upcoming TV Specials

On September 23, 2014, Tony Bennett will be releasing a new duets album of traditional pop classics, "Cheek To Cheek," which he recorded with Lady Gaga. A video of one of this upcoming album's songs, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," has been released and can be heard at the link below. Bennett will also be appearing on TV in two TV specials: "Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga: Cheek To Cheek," which airs September 13 on HSN, and "Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!" which airs October 24 on PBS.

August 20, 2014: Hollies Mark 50th Anniversary With Album And Tour

On October 21, 2014, the Hollies will be releasing a 3-CD compilation of 50 of the band's songs from the past 50 years. Titled "50 At Fifty," this collection includes a new song, "Skylarks," recorded earlier this year. The Hollies will also be launching a European tour beginning September 16. Formed in 1962, the Hollies' current lineup includes two of the band's original members, Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliott.

August 20, 2014: The Who To Perform On Cancer Charity Telecast This September

On September 5, 2014, the fundraising telecast, "Stand Up To Cancer," will be airing on most TV stations, including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, HBO, Bravo, E!, VH1, and Showtime, and will also be streaming live on both Hulu and Yahoo. The Who will be giving a special performance at this star-studded event, along with several other bands and artists.

August 20, 2014: Two Out-Of-Print Jimi Hendrix Albums To Be Reissued

On September 16, 2014, two posthumous albums by Jimi Hendrix which first came out in 1971 are slated to be reissued on CD, vinyl, and various digital formats. Titled "The Cry of Love" and "Rainbow Bridge," these two albums will include remastered versions of the tracks plus the original album art. Highlights of "Rainbow Bridge" include a studio version of "Star Spangled Banner" and backup vocals by the Ronettes on "Earth Blues."

August 21, 2014: Catch Animated Oldies Music Icons On Simpsons Marathon

On August 21, 2014, FXX is set to begin airing a 12-day marathon of the longest-running animated TV show to date, "The Simpsons." For this 25 decades-long show, Billboard compiled a list of every musical guest that has made an "appearance" since it first aired in 1989. August 22, 2014: John Lennon's Murderer Once Again Denied Parole

Mark David Chapman, who murdered John Lennon in 1980, recently came up for parole for the eighth time and was denied. His next parole hearing is set to take place August 2016.
