During the week of January 8, 2017, fans bade a final farewell to jazz-pop singer Buddy Greco of "The Lady Is A Tramp" fame and guitarist Tommy Allsup who narrowly escaped the plane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson.

Ann Wilson announced a solo tour that will take the Heart lead singer to various states in the U.S. starting this March. Foreigner announced a U.S. tour to commemorate the band's 40th anniversary that begins this July. Also, Carlos Santana announced an extension of his long-running Las Vegas residency through mid-November.

David Crosby recently released a new protest song titled "Capitol" that takes aim at Congress. Other oldies artists recordings on the horizon include an expanded edition of Roy Orbison's 1988 concert special, "Black & White Night," which will be coming out in February. In addition, this concert will air on PBS sometime this March.

Also that week, it was announced that a new concert film titled "Peter Frampton Raw: An Acoustic Show" will premiere January 29, 2017 on AXS TV.

January 9, 2017: Foreigner Announces 40th Anniversary Tour

Foreigner announced an upcoming summer U.S. tour to commemorate the band's 40th anniversary. This cross-country trek is currently set to begin on July 11, 2017 in Syracuse, NY and end on September 9 in Auburn, WA, with more show dates expected to be announced soon. At present, 36 shows are scheduled that will cover Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington State. Featured guest artists will include Cheap Trick and three original Foreigner band members: Lou Gramm, Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood.

January 10, 2017: David Crosby Releases New Protest Song

David Crosby recently released a new protest song titled "Capitol" that takes aim at Congress and related current political issues. This song can be heard in full at davidcrosby.com.

January 10, 2017: Ann Wilson Of Heart Announces 2017 Solo Tour

Ann Wilson of Heart announced a solo tour that will take her to various states in the U.S. starting March 8, 2017 in Seattle, WA. So far, 20 show dates have been confirmed covering California, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Washington State. Wilson's program will include Heart classics plus other songs from her solo albums.

January 11, 2017: Santana Extends Las Vegas Residency

Carlos Santana announced an extension of his long-running Las Vegas residency, which will complete its 5th year this May, through mid-November. All shows take place at the city's House of Blues, and parts of the proceeds from ticket sales go to The Milagro Foundation, which Carlos co-founded, and the House of Blues Music Forward Foundation. January 12, 2017: Buddy Greco Passes Away

Famed jazz-pop singer and pianist Buddy Greco died on January 10, 2017 at age 90 in Las Vegas, NV. He recorded over 60 albums and had a long string of hits from 1947-1969 that included "Ooh! Look-A There, Ain't She Pretty" (1947), "I Ran All the Way Home" (1951), and his enormously popular signature song, "The Lady Is A Tramp" (1960). Over his long career in show business, which began at age 6 when he started singing on the radio, Greco headlined numerous nightclubs, cabarets, and other venues in Las Vegas and around the world. He performed with such top entertainers as Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Marilyn Monroe, and Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack, and he once gave a concert with The Beatles for Queen Elizabeth II.

January 12, 2017: New Peter Frampton Concert Film To Premiere On AXS TV

A new concert film titled "Peter Frampton Raw: An Acoustic Show" that captures a show from March 2016 is set to make its premiere January 29, 2017 on AXS TV. In this movie, the veteran guitarist performs musically stripped-down versions of such classics as "Show Me The Way," "Do You Feel Like We Do," and "Lines On My Face."

January 13, 2017: Expanded Edition Of Roy Orbison 1988 Concert Special To Be Released

An expanded edition of Roy Orbison's 1988 concert special, "Black & White Night," will be coming out February 24, 2017 on DVD/CD and Blu-ray/CD to commemorate the show's 30th anniversary. Titled "Black & White Night 30," this collection will feature previously unseen performances, rare rehearsal footage, and a documentary that includes interviews with some of this event's participants. "Black & White Night," which originally aired on cable TV, captured a concert featuring performances by Orbison and numerous guest artists that took place in Los Angeles on September 20, 1987. "Black & White Night 30" will air on PBS sometime this March.

January 13, 2017: Tommy Allsup Passes Away

Famed session guitarist and producer Tommy Allsup died on January 11, 2017 at age 85 in a Springfield, MO hospital after complications from hernia surgery. Over his long career, Allsup worked with Merle Haggard, Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, Bob Wills, and many other top artists. He was highly regarded by his peers and considered by Paul McCartney to be one of the best guitarists in the world.

Allsup was famous for having narrowly escaped the fateful plane crash of February 3, 1959 that took the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. At that time, he was touring with Holly as a member of his band and lost a coin toss for a seat on that plane. Waylon Jennings, who was also a member of Holly's band, managed to avoid the plane crash after giving up his seat to Richardson.
