During the week of April 16, 2017, fans bade a final farewell to Cuba Gooding Sr. of The Main Ingredient and Motown songwriter Sylvia Moy.

A second installment of the soundtrack to the movie, "Guardians Of The Galaxy," which includes many oldies classics from the 1960s and 1970s, will be coming out in April. A new compilation titled "Iconic Performances From The Monterey International Pop Festival" featuring highlights from that historic 1967 event will be coming out in June. Also that month, Styx will release a new concept album titled "The Mission."

The 50th Anniversary Monterey International Pop Festival will take place this June at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, CA, the same site as the 1967 festival. Among the featured performers are Eric Burdon, Booker T. Jones, and Phil Lesh who all took part in the original event. Stephen Stills and Judy Collins announced a joint U.S. tour beginning in July. Also that month, Earth, Wind & Fire and Chic are set to launch a North American tour. In September, Stevie Nicks and Steve Miller will headline the Bourbon & Beyond Festival to take place in Louisville, KY.

Also that week, it was announced that the late and great Roy Orbison will be inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame this October as part of its 2017 class.

April 17, 2017: Eric Burdon, Booker T. Jones, Phil Lesh To Perform At 50th Anniversary Monterey Pop Festival

The 50th Anniversary Monterey International Pop Festival is set to take place June 16-18, 2017 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, CA, the same site as the historic 1967 festival. Among the featured performers are veteran artists Eric Burdon, Booker T. Jones, and Phil Lesh who all took part in the original event. Burdon will perform with the latest incarnation of The Animals, and Jones will play with his latest band, the Booker T. Stax Revue. Ex-Grateful Dead member Lesh will appear with his current group, The Terrapin Family Band.

April 17, 2017: Motown Songwriter Sylvia Moy Passes Away

Famed songwriter and record producer Sylvia Moy died on April 15, 2017 at age 78 in Dearborn, MI of complications from pneumonia. She was a member of Motown's group of songwriters during the 1960s and co-wrote many of this label's classic hits. She was best known for her work with Stevie Wonder.

Among the many hits Moy co-wrote and/or produced were Stevie Wonder's "Uptight (Everything's Alright)," "I Was Made to Love Her," "My Cherie Amour," "Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day," and "Never Had a Dream Come True"; Martha Reeves & The Vandellas' "Honey Chile" and "Love Bug Leave My Heart Alone"; The Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak For You)"; and Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston's duet, "It Takes Two."

Moy was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006 alongside fellow Motown songwriter and producer, Hank Cosby.

April 18, 2017: New 1967 Monterey Pop Fest Compilation To Be Released

A new compilation featuring highlights from the historic 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival will be coming out on June 9, 2017 in commemoration of that event's 50th anniversary. Titled "Iconic Performances From The Monterey International Pop Festival," this 13-track collection includes such classics as Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth," Simon and Garfunkel's "Sounds Of Silence," and Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," as well as a number of previously unissued performances.

April 19, 2017: Roy Orbison To Be Inducted Into Austin City Limits Hall Of Fame

Roy Orbison is among those to be inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame as part of its 2017 class. The ceremonies will take place on October 25, 2017 at the Moody Theater in Austin, TX. Rosanne Cash and The Neville Brothers will also be inducted along with the late rock and roll icon.

April 19, 2017: Stephen Stills And Judy Collins Team Up For Duets Album And Tour

Stephen Stills and Judy Collins announced an upcoming joint tour that will take the two folk-rock legends to various states in the U.S. This 22-date trek begins on July 26, 2017 in Highland Park, IL and ends on September 6 in San Diego, CA, with additional stops in California, as well as in Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Kansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. They are also working on a duets album which is expected out sometime this summer. Their shows will include songs from this upcoming album.

April 19, 2017: 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Soundtrack To Be Released

A second installment of the soundtrack to the movie, "Guardians Of The Galaxy," which features many beloved oldies classics, is due out on April 21, 2017. Titled "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2," highlights of this collection include "Bring It On Home To Me" (Sam Cooke), "Come a Little Bit Closer" (Jay & The Americans), "The Chain" (Fleetwood Mac), "My Sweet Lord" (George Harrison), "Fox On The Run" (Sweet), "Father And Son" (Cat Stevens), "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)" (Looking Glass), and "Flashlight" (Parliament).

April 20, 2017: Cuba Gooding Sr. Of The Main Ingredient Passes Away

Famed R&B/soul singer Cuba Gooding Sr. died on April 20, 2017 at age 72 in Woodland Hills, CA. He was found dead in his car, and the cause of his death is as yet unknown. He served as the lead singer of The Main Ingredient beginning in 1971 after the unexpected passing of the group's frontman, Donald McPherson.

Gooding's smooth lead vocals can be heard on the group's 1972 smash hit, "Everybody Plays The Fool," in which he also provides the song's spoken introduction, as well as "Just Don't Want To Be Lonely" (1974) and other hits. Gooding left The Main Ingredient in 1977 to pursue a solo career and had two hits on the R&B charts with "Mind Pleaser" (1978) and "Happiness Is Just Around The Bend" (1983).

Gooding was the father of famed Oscar-winning actor, Cuba Gooding Jr.

April 21, 2017: Earth, Wind & Fire And Chic To Launch Joint Tour

Earth, Wind & Fire and Chic - now known as CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers - announced a joint tour that will take the two legendary R&B/funk bands to various parts of the U.S. and Canada. Dubbed "2054 The Tour," this 22-date trek begins on July 12 in Oakland, CA and ends on August 22 in Detroit, MI, with stops in many states plus Ontario, Canada.

April 21, 2017: Styx Announces New Album

Styx announced a new album titled "The Mission" which is due out on June 16, 2017. This latest work is a concept album that tells the story about the first manned trip to Mars in the year 2033. Styx has released this album's first single, "Gone Gone Gone," which can be purchased as a download and can also be previewed at the band's official VEVO YouTube channel.
