During the week of January 19, 2014, a number of celebratory events were announced that will take place on February 9, 2014, the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' historic first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles" is set to air on CBS, and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will be among the featured performers. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will also be hosting various activities in commemoration.
Billy Joel recently started a tour that will cover several North American cities and last through most of September. Also, Alice Cooper will be appearing as a guest artist on Motley Crue’s upcoming Farewell Tour.
This March, Neil Young will be releasing a new album titled "A Letter Home." Also, "Bob Dylan - The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration - Deluxe Edition," originally released in 1993, is set to be re-released on DVD.
A new book about the Rolling Stones that goes into detail about all the instruments and equipment the band has used since its founding in 1962, titled "The Rolling Stones Gear," is due out this February. According to this book's author, an in-depth knowledge of the Rolling Stones' gear gives one a better understanding of their sound.
Congratulations go to Bachman-Turner Overdrive for being inducted into the Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The award ceremonies are set to take place this March and will air nationwide in Canada.
On a somber note, Toni Tennille and Daryl Dragon, best known as the 1970s husband-wife singing duo Captain & Tennille, will be divorcing after almost 40 years. Tennille filed for divorce earlier this month for reasons as yet unknown, and Dragon apparently did not see it coming. (See video below.)
January 20, 2014: Rolling Stones Gear Book To Be Published
A new book about the Rolling Stones as seen through the band's instruments is scheduled for release on February 4, 2014. This 600-page book, titled "The Rolling Stones Gear," covers every tour and studio session since the band's founding in 1962 and goes into detail about all the instruments and equipment used over the years. As author Andy Babiuk explains, an in-depth knowledge of the Rolling Stones' gear gives one a better understanding of their sound.
January 20, 2014: Billy Joel Announces 2014 Tour Schedule
Billy Joel announced a series of tour dates in North America starting January 17, 2014 in Tampa, FL and ending September 17 in New York City. Other cities in this tour will include Jacksonville, FL; Raleigh, NC; Detroit, MI; Toronto, ON; Nashville, TN; Cleveland, OH; Louisville, KY; Hollywood, CA; Las Vegas, NV; and Chicago, IL.
January 20, 2014: Alice Cooper To Appear As Guest Artist On Motley Crue's Farewell Tour
Alice Cooper will be among the guest artists to appear on Motley Crue's upcoming Farewell Tour. As to when and where this tour will be taking place, the band will announce further details later this month.
January 21, 2014: Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration To Be Reissued
On October 16, 1992, Bob Dylan gave a concert at New York's Madison Square Garden in celebration of his 30 years as a recording artist which was recorded live. This event also featured many top bands and artists who performed a program of all Dylan-penned songs. First released in 1993, "Bob Dylan - The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration - Deluxe Edition" is scheduled to be re-released March 4, 2014 on DVD.
January 21, 2014: Bachman-Turner Overdrive To Be Inducted Into Canadian Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
It was announced that Bachman-Turner Overdrive will be inducted into the Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at this year's Juno Awards. The ceremonies will take place on March 30, 2014 in Hamilton, Ontario, and will air nationwide in Canada on the CTV network.
January 22, 2014: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame To Celebrate Beatles 50th Anniversary
On February 9, 2014, which will be 50 years since the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be hosting a number of activities in celebration of this musically historic event. Among the many highlights will be movies, interactive programs for families, and an unveiling of John Lennon’s Rickenbacker electric guitar that he played during the Beatles' second appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. January 22, 2014: Captain And Tennille To Divorce
Toni Tennille and Daryl Dragon, best known as the husband-wife singing duo Captain & Tennille who became famous in the 1970s for "Love Will Keep Us Together" and other hits, will be divorcing after almost 40 years. Since the 1970s, the duo continued to tour and record through the mid-2000s, and Tennille also had a second solo career. Tennille filed for divorce in Arizona on January 16, 2014 for reasons as yet unknown. Dragon was reportedly unaware of all this until he was served with the divorce papers.
January 23, 2014: New Neil Young Album Due This March
Neil Young will be releasing a new album, "A Letter Home," which is expected out this March. This album is unique in that it was recorded on old equipment to give it that old record sound.
January 24, 2014: Beatles 50th Anniversary All-Star Tribute To Be Aired On CBS
