During the week of February 28, 2016, fans bade a final farewell to Gayle McCormick, the lead singer of Smith famous for the 1969 smash hit, "Baby It's You."
Also that week, it was announced that Marvin Gaye, Chip Taylor, and Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic are among this year's inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
A new Eric Clapton vinyl box set titled "The Live Album Collection 1970-1980" will be coming out this March. Stephen Stills' blues-rock supergroup, The Rides, will be releasing its second album this May titled "Pierced Arrow" and will also be launching a tour that same month in support of this album.
The Rolling Stones will be performing a free concert in Cuba later this month as part of the band's "America Latina Ole" tour of South America. Boston announced its upcoming 40th anniversary U.S. tour which begins in April. This May, Bad Company and Joe Walsh will be launching a co-headlining tour dubbed "One Hell Of A Night." The Steve Miller Band announced its upcoming North American summer tour that begins this July. Also that month, Gladys Knight will be giving a series of concerts in London and elsewhere in the U.K. Also, The Moody Blues have added a Las Vegas residency to their 2016 itinerary to take place this October.
Also that week, it was announced that Cheap Trick will be performing in an upcoming episode of CMT Crossroads to air on March 24, 2016. A new biography about James Brown titled "Kill 'Em And Leave: Searching For James Brown And The American Soul" will be coming out this April. Also, a massive Bob Dylan memorabilia collection spanning some six decades was recently purchased by the George Kaiser Family Foundation and the University of Tulsa for $15-20 million and will be housed at the University's Helmerich Center for American Research.
Finally, Gladys Knight, who was a passenger in a car pulled over for speeding, serenaded the delighted traffic cop who was a big fan of the legendary singer with "Happy Birthday."

February 29, 2016: New Eric Clapton Live Album Vinyl Box Set To Be Released
A new vinyl box set of four live Eric Clapton albums will be coming out on March 25, 2016. Titled "The Live Album Collection 1970-1980," this collection includes remastered versions of "Derek & The Dominos In Concert" (1973), "Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert" (1973), "E.C. Was Here" (1975), and "Just One Night" (1975). This latest box set is a companion to "The Studio Album Collection 1971-1980" released in January.

Stephen Stills' blues-rock supergroup, The Rides, will be releasing its second album on May 6, 2016. The Rolling Stones will be performing a free concert in Cuba as part of the band's "America Latina Ole" tour of South America which is currently in progress. This event, dubbed the "Concert For Amity," is set to take place in Havana on March 25, 2016 and will be filmed by JA Digital.
March 1, 2016: New James Brown Biography To Be Published
A new biography about James Brown titled "Kill 'Em And Leave: Searching For James Brown And The American Soul" will be coming out on April 5, 2016. March 2, 2016: Bob Dylan Memorabilia Collection To Be Housed Permanently In Tulsa, OK
A huge collection of Bob Dylan memorabilia amassed over six decades was recently purchased by the George Kaiser Family Foundation and the University of Tulsa for $15-20 million and will be housed at The University of Tulsa’s Helmerich Center for American Research. Among the 6000+ items are many never-before-seen handwritten lyrics, letters, notebooks, and other documents, Dylan's first publishing contract, early recordings dating back to 1959, rare concert footage, and the leather jacket he wore at his historic "electric" concert at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. March 4, 2016: Gayle McCormick Of Smith Passes Away
Famed singer Gayle McCormick died of cancer at age 67 on March 1, 2016 in St. Louis, MO. She is best remembered for her impassioned rendition as the lead singer of Smith of The Shirelles' "Baby It's You" which became a Top 10 hit for the band in 1969. Prior to joining Smith, she had been the lead singer of Klassmen, a St. Louis-based band that charted locally in 1967 with the song, "Without You." After Smith disbanded in 1971, McCormick went on to record solo and released three albums. She had several hits on the Billboard Hot 100 that included "It's A Cryin' Shame" which also became an Adult Contemporary Top 10 hit.
Smith's version of "Baby It's You" was featured in the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's 2007 film, "Death Proof." Veteran St. Louis deejay Jonny King, a longtime friend who had known McCormick since the mid-1960s, paid tribute to her on his official website with photos and other memorabilia.

March 4, 2016: Gladys Knight Sings 'Happy Birthday' To Cop During Traffic Stop
Gladys Knight was a passenger in a car that was recently pulled over for speeding near Pleasant Grove, Utah. As the traffic cop was checking the driver's license, he was informed that Knight was on her way to an event for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The legendary singer serenaded him with "Happy Birthday" after he mentioned that he and his wife were big fans. The driver was let go with a warning, which most likely would have happened even if Knight had not been in the car.
March 5, 2016: Cheap Trick To Appear On CMT Crossroads
Cheap Trick will be the featured performer in an upcoming episode of CMT Crossroads to air on March 24, 2016. The soon-to-be Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee will perform alongside Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles as part of this show's main theme in which pop/rock bands and artists collaborate with country performers, with each act singing each other's songs together.
