Brownsville Station - Songs

ABOUT

Brownsville Station is a veteran blues/hard rock band with a flair for 1950s rock & roll that became famous during the early 1970s. They are best known for the swaggering boogie rock classic, "Smokin' In The Boy's Room" (1973).

Formed in 1969 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the original lineup consisted of Michael "Cub" Koda (guitar, lead vocals, harmonica), Mike Lutz (guitar, lead vocals, bass, keyboards), Tony Driggins (bass, vocals), and T.J. Cronley (drums). By 1972, the band had signed with Big Tree and had become a trio, with Henry Weck replacing Cronley as drummer the previous year.

Brownsville Station debuted in late 1972 with the goofy novelty song, "The Red Back Spider," which became a minor hit on the Pop/Rock charts. Their fame took off in 1973 with the Koda/Lutz-penned "Smokin' In The Boy's Room," which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and soon after went gold. Brownsville Station reached the Top 40 again in 1974 with "Kings Of The Party," and their many hits, which continued through 1977, also include "Let Your Yeah Be Yeah" (1973), "I'm The Leader Of The Gang" (1974), "Lady (Put The Light On Me)" (1977), and the eerie "The Martian Boogie" (1977).

After the band split in 1979, Cub Koda (October 1, 1948 - July 1, 2000) went on to record solo and later became a music journalist and wrote a monthly column titled "The Vinyl Junkie" for Goldmine Magazine and a number of other trade journals. Original Brownsville Station members Mike Lutz and Henry Weck reformed the band many years later in 2012 with two new members and released the album, "Still Smokin'" (2012). Brownsville Station was inducted into the Michigan Rock & Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2008.
