The Dixie Cups - Songs

ABOUT

The Dixie Cups are a highly acclaimed and veteran female R&B/pop trio that became famous during the mid 1960s as one of the top girl groups of that era. Best known for the Phil Spector/Jeff Barry/Ellie Greenwich-penned oldies classic, "Chapel Of Love" (1964), which topped the charts and became a million-seller, other top hits include "People Say" (1964) and "Iko Iko" (1965).

Formed in 1963 in New Orleans, Louisiana and first known as The Meltones, the original lineup consisted of sisters Barbara Ann (b. 1943) and Rosa Lee Hawkins (October 23, 1945 - January 11, 2022) and their cousin, Joan Marie Johnson (January 15, 1944 - October 2, 2016), who began singing together in elementary school. They were discovered soon after by Joe Jones (of "You Talk Too Much" fame) who became their manager and took them to New York City where they landed their first recording contract at Red Bird.

The Dixie Cups have continued to perform actively to the present day, with some personnel changes over the years. They were inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
