Duke Ellington (April 29, 1899 - May 24, 1974) was a celebrated jazz pianist, composer, and orchestra leader who became famous beginning in the early 1920s. A prolific songwriter, Ellington wrote/co-wrote over one thousand compositions, many of which have become standards. He topped the Pop charts with "Three Little Words" (1930), "Cocktails For Two" (1934), and "I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart" (1938), and later hits include such R&B chart-toppers as "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" (1943) and "Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me" (1944).
