Murry Kellum

Murry Kellum (December 31, 1942 - September 30, 1990) was a veteran country music singer, songwriter, and guitarist who became famous beginning in the early 1960s when he scored his first hit on the Pop/Rock charts with "Long Tall Texan" (1963). His best known songs include his hillbilly-sounding hit remake of Three Dog Night's "Joy To The World" (1971), which made the Country Top 40. His many songwriting credits for other artists include "If You're Gonna Play In Texas (You Gotta Have A Fiddle In The Band)," which topped the Country charts for Alabama in 1984. Kellum died in a plane crash on his way back home from giving a concert in Ada, OK.
