Porter Wagoner (August 12, 1927 - October 28, 2007) was a hugely popular country singer with a very long string of hits who hosted his own TV variety show from 1960-1981. He had a crossover hit on the Pop/Rock charts in 1969 with "The Carroll County Accident," which became one of his signature songs.
