ABOUT

Eumir Deodato de Almeida (b. 1942), known professionally as Deodato, is a highly acclaimed and veteran Brazilian jazz/funk/bossa nova pianist, composer, arranger, and producer who became famous as a recording artist during the early 1970s. He is best known for the instrumental disco smash, "Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)" (1973), an adaptation of the fanfare from the same-named tone poem by Richard Strauss famously used in the soundtrack to "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968). Deodato's version won the 1974 Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance and was featured in "Being There" (1979) starring Peter Sellers.
