Percy Mayfield

Percy Mayfield (August 12, 1920 - August 11, 1984) was an R&B singer and songwriter with smooth vocals who became famous beginning in the early 1950s. Best known for the bluesy, self-penned "Please Send Me Someone To Love" (1950), which topped the R&B charts, he had his biggest Pop/Rock crossover success with "River's Invitation" (1963). Mayfield's many songwriting credits for other artists include Ray Charles' "Hit The Road Jack."
