Sonny James (May 1, 1928 - February 22, 2016, b. James Hugh Loden) was a highly acclaimed country singer and songwriter with a great deal of crossover appeal who became famous beginning in the mid 1950s. Best known for his smash rendition of the classic pop country ballad, "Young Love" (1956), which topped both the Pop/Rock and Country charts and made the R&B Top 5, other major Pop/Rock hits include "First Date, First Kiss, First Love" (1957). Through 1983, he amassed an astounding 26 #1 hits on the Country charts, highlighted by an unprecedented five-year streak of 16 consecutive chart-toppers from 1967-1971. James numerous honors include being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
