"Tennessee" Ernie Ford (February 13, 1919 - October 17, 1991, b. Ernest Jennings Ford) was a highly acclaimed country, gospel, and traditional pop singer and TV host with a distinctive rich baritone who became famous during the late 1940s and 1950s. His many signature songs include "The Shot Gun Boogie" (1951), "Ballad Of Davy Crockett" (1955), and the chart-topping "Sixteen Tons" (1955).
