ABOUT

Freddie Hart (December 21, 1926 - October 27, 2018) was a highly acclaimed and veteran country singer, songwriter, and guitarist who became famous beginning in the late 1950s. He is best known for "East Loving" (1971), which topped the Country charts, made the Pop/Rock Top 20, and became his biggest crossover success. His long string of hits on the Country charts from 1959-1987 also includes such classics as "My Hang-Up Is You" (1972), "Bless Your Heart" (1972), "Got The All Overs For You (All Over Me)" (1972), "Super Kind Of Woman" (1973), and "Trip To Heaven" (1973).

Born Frederick Segrest in Loachapoka, Alabama into a sharecropper family, he began playing guitar at age five and by 12, had left school to work for his family. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, he pursued a music career and had his first break in 1955 when country singer Carl Smith topped the Country charts with "Loose Talk," a song Hart co-wrote with Hardy Turner. Hart's career took off in the late 1950s when he signed with Columbia Records and scored his first hit with "The Wall" in 1959. His peak in commercial fame came in the early 1970s with the release of "Easy Loving," which won the Country Music Association's Song of the Year award in 1971 and 1972. Freddie Hart continued to perform and record actively up to his passing and was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
