Gerry And The Pacemakers - Songs

ABOUT

Gerry & The Pacemakers were a top English beat group that became famous during the mid 1960s as part of the British Invasion. They are best known in the U.S. for the somber yet uplifting "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying" (1964), the upbeat "How Do You Do It?" (1964), and the tranquil "Ferry Cross The Mersey" (1965), the latter of which is the title song to the 1964 British musical film in which the group starred and performed. Gerry & The Pacemakers' long string of hits on both sides of the Atlantic also include "I Like It" (1964) and "You'll Never Walk Alone" (1965, from the Rogers & Hammerstein musical, "Carousel"), both of which topped the U.K. charts. "You'll Never Walk Alone" recharted in the U.K. Top 20 after many years in 2012.

Formed in Liverpool in 1956 by lead singer/guitarist Gerry Marsden (September 24, 1942 - January 3, 2021) who also served as the group's main songwriter, the classic hitmaking lineup also consisted of his brother and drummer Freddie Marsden (d. 2006), bassist Les Chadwick (d. 2019), and pianist Les Maguire (December 27, 1941 - November 25, 2023), with many personnel changes over the years. As with The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers were also managed by Brian Epstein and recorded/produced by George Martin. By 1967, they had disbanded due to waning popularity in both the U.S. and the U.K., and in 1972, Gerry Marsden reformed Gerry & The Pacemakers with an all-new lineup. Marsden led the group on and off over the years up to his retirement in 2018.
