ABOUT
The Intruders were a soul group with a smooth sound that became famous during the late 1960s and early 1970s as one of a number of top acts that defined the R&B genre known as Philadelphia soul. They are best known for the Kenny Gamble/Leon Huff-penned "Cowboys To Girls" (1968), which topped the R&B charts, made the Pop/Rock Top 10, and became their biggest crossover success.
The Intruders were formed in 1960 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by Sam "Little Sonny" Brown, Eugene "Bird" Daughtry, Robert "Big Sonny" Edwards, and Phillip "Phil" Terry and started off as a doo-wop group with some R&B, soul, and gospel music elements. Besides the group's signature song, "Cowboys To Girls," The Intruders had a long string of hits on both the Pop/Rock and R&B charts that also included "(We'll Be) United" (1966), "Together" (1967), "(Love Is Like A) Baseball Game" (1968), "When We Get Married" (1970), "I'll Always Love My Mama (Part I)" (1973), and "I Wanna Know Your Name" (1973).
