Joey Dee & The Starliters are a veteran rock & roll group led by Joey Dee (b. Joseph DiNicola, 1937) that became famous during the early 1960s. They are best known for the chart-topping "Peppermint Twist - Part I" (1961), a million-seller that was followed by a string of hits through 1963 that includes "Shout - Part I" (1962).

Formed in 1958 in Passaic, New Jersey, original members included Joey Dee (vocals, saxophone), David Brigati (vocals), Larry Vernieri (vocals), Carlton Lattimore (organ), Sam Taylor (guitar), and Willie Davis (drums). Joey Dee & The Starliters became the house band for the Peppermint Lounge in New York City in 1960. Late guitar legend Jimi Hendrix and actor Joe Pesci played guitar with the group at various times during the 1960s.
