Jorgen Ingmann And His Guitar - Songs

ABOUT

Jorgen Ingmann (April 26, 1925 - March 21, 2015) was a prominent Danish jazz and pop guitarist with an innovative style who became famous during the early 1960s. He is best known internationally for his fiery instrumental smash rendition of the Jerry Lordan-penned "Apache" (1961), which topped the charts in Canada, made the U.S. Top 5, and also became a big hit in several other countries worldwide.

Born Jorgen Ingmann Pedersen in Copenhagen, he began in the 1940s performing with jazz violinist Svend Asmussen in a group known as the Unmelancholy Danes. Inspired by guitarist/recording studio pioneer Les Paul, he set up his own studio in the mid 1950s where he developed techniques of multi-tracking and distortion, using his own accompaniment on bass and drums, and began recording as Jorgen Ingmann & His Guitar. After his success with "Apache," he had another hit in the U.S. with his instrumental cover of Silvana Mangano's "Anna" (1961) and continued to chart through the mid 1960s in Germany as well as his native Denmark. He and his wife Grethe also performed as a duo, winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1963 with their song, "Dansevise." Ingmann continued to record and perform actively over the years before retiring in 1984.
