ABOUT

Vince Guaraldi (July 17, 1928 - February 6, 1976) was a highly acclaimed jazz pianist and composer who became famous during the 1960s. Best known for the music from the "Peanuts" animated TV specials, he also had a Top 40 hit with the catchy and atmospheric jazz instrumental, "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" (1962, credited to the Vince Guaraldi Trio).

Born Vincent Anthony Dellaglio in San Francisco, California into a musical family, his surname was changed to Guaraldi after his mother divorced his father and remarried Tony Guaraldi, who adopted him. He began in the early 1950s playing with Cal Tjader and by the mid 1950s, had formed his first trio and signed with Fantasy Records. Throughout most of the remainder of the 1950s, Guaraldi recorded several albums, toured with Woody Herman, and continued performing with Tjader as well as his own ensembles. His career breakthrough came in 1962 with the release of his album, "Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus," which includes the Grammy-winning smash, "Cast Your Fate To The Wind."

Guaraldi went on to compose the music to the first sixteen "Peanuts" TV specials plus one feature film. Recorded with the Vince Guaraldi Trio, the soundtrack to the first of this series, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (1965), features such classics as the holiday standard, "Christmas Time Is Here," and "Linus & Lucy," which became the main theme for the "Peanuts" franchise.
