During the week of August 26, 2012, fans mourned the passing of famed lyricist Hal David who, with Burt Bacharach, penned many top hits from the 1960s and 1970s, including "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head," "Do You Know The Way To San Jose," and "Close To You."
As part of their 50-year anniversary celebration, The Rolling Stones will be performing in New York and London this fall, and a documentary will be aired on HBO this November.
August 27, 2012: 63-CD Johnny Cash Box Set To Be Released In October
A massive box set of all of Johnny Cash's recordings with Columbia Records is slated to be released on October 30, 2012. This box set, which covers the years, 1958-1986, will include many albums previously unreleased on CD and other material.

August 27, 2012: 'Motown: The Musical' Coming To Broadway In April
Motown founder Berry Gordy and co-producers Kevin McCollum and Doug Morris announced that "Motown: The Musical" will be coming to Broadway on April 14, 2013, at New York's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. This musical, which will star Victor Dixon as Berry Gordy, will be based on the story of the founding of this famous record label.

August 28, 2012: Spike Lee To Bring Michael Jackson Documentary To ABC
"Bad25," a documentary by acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee about the making by Michael Jackson of his album, "Bad," will premier on ABC this Thanksgiving. This documentary, which will show never-before-seen footage of Jackson and others, is one of two projects that will commemorate the 25th anniversary of this album.

August 30, 2012: Rolling Stones Plan First Shows Since 2007
As part of this band's 50th anniversay celebration, the Rolling Stones will be performing at Brooklyn's Barclays Center and London's O2 Arena. The shows are slated to take place later this year.

August 30, 2012: HBO To Air Rolling Stones Documentary On November 15, 2012
The Rolling Stones are releasing a documentary, "Crossfire Hurricane," which tells the story of their 50 years together. This film will premier in some UK theaters in October and will air on HBO this November.

August 30, 2012: Eddie Van Halen Has Emergency Surgery
Eddie Van Halen recently underwent emergency surgery for diverticulitis and will be spending several months recovering. Van Halen originally had a tour in Japan planned for this November which will be rescheduled for 2013.

September 1, 2012: Hal David Passes Away At 91
Famed lyricist Hal David died in Los Angeles on September 1, 2012 at 91 of complications from a stroke. He is famous for co-writing a long string of Top 40 hits from the 1960s and 1970s with long-time collaborator Burt Bacharach, many of which have become pop standards. "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head," "Do You Know The Way To San Jose," and "Close To You" are just some of the many songs that have made the David-Bacharach songwriting duo famous. In 2011, they were awarded the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the Library of Congress. David got his start in the 1940s writing for such artists as Sammy Kaye, Guy Lombardo, and Morty Nevins. Throughout his long career, he also worked with Albert Hammond, Sherman Edwards, John Barry, and other composers.
