During the week of July 29, 2012, fans mourned the passing of singer and actor Tony Martin who had a long string of hits from 1940-1957 and appeared in many movie musicals from the 1930s through 1950s.
Also this week, Cher announced that she will be recording a new album and going on tour, Neil Diamond will be unveiling a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HBO announced a new documentary about The Rolling Stones to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary, and several oldies bands and artists will be releasing new albums this fall.
July 30, 2012: Singer Tony Martin Passes Away
Singer and actor Tony Martin died at 98 on July 27, 2012 at his home in Los Angeles. Martin had a long string of hits from 1940-1957 that included "There's No Tomorrow" (1949), "I Said My Pajamas (And Put On My Pray'rs)" (1950), and "I Get Ideas" (1951). He appeared in many movie musicals from the 1930s through 1950s and often played the romantic lead.

July 31, 2012: Cher Records Timbaland Track
Cher is slated to release her first new album in 11 years which will include a song by singer and producer Timbaland. She also announced that she will be coming out of retirement to go on tour.

July 31, 2012: Film Of Elvis Presley's 1972 New York City Concert On New Reissue
Elvis Presley’s 1972 performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City, which was recorded by an audience member using a hand-held camera, will be included in a new 40th anniversary deluxe reissue DVD box set along with two other performances by Presley from June, 1972. This box set, entitled "Prince From Another Planet," is slated to be releaased this October. The Madison Square Garden concert film will get its world premiere on August 17 in Memphis, TN, as part of Elvis Week activities commemorating the 35th anniversary of Presley's death in 1977.

Bruce Springsteen sets a record by playing a four-hour concert for the first time in Helsinki, Finland, where he and the E Street Band wrapped up their summer tour of Europe. After a two-week break, they will be touring in the US.

This fall, HBO will be airing a new documentary about The Rolling Stones to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this band. The documentary will be directed by Brett Morgan.

August 1, 2012: Grateful Dead 'Spring 1990' Box Set To Be Released
This September, an 18-CD box set, entitled "Spring 1990," will be released that will include six shows from the Grateful Dead's 1990 tour in the spring of 1990, which began on March 14th, 1990 at the Capital Centre in Landover, MD. This set, to be released by Rhino, will be limited to 9,000 copies and will also include a 60-page hardcover book.
August 1, 2012: Pete Seeger Teams With Bruce Springsteen And Steve Earle On New Albums
Pete Seeger will be releasing two albums this fall, "A More Perfect Union" featuring duets with Seeger and Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earleand others, and "Pete Remembers Woody" in honor of the 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie's birth.

Tony Bennett will be releasing a new album, "Viva Duets," this October. This album features duets by Bennett and a number of Latino stars including Marc Anthony, Franco DeVita, Gloria Estefan and Juan Luis Guerra. The tracks will include new performances of "For Once In My Life," "The Very Thought of You," and "The Way You Look Tonight."
