The week of May 27, 2012 was a busy one in the world of oldies music. The world mourned the passing of famed folk guitarist Doc Watson on May 29, 2012. Also, Bob Dylan was awarded the US Medal of Freedom, and The Beach Boys kicked off their 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour.
May 29, 2012: Folk Guitarist Doc Watson Passes Away
Famed folk guitarist Arthel "Doc" Watson passed away at age 89 on May 29, 2012 in Winston-Salem, NC. Since he got his start in 1953 playing lead guitar in a country-and-western swing band, he had recorded some 60 albums and won many Grammys.

May 30, 2012: Bob Dylan Is Awarded The US Medal Of Freedom
Bob Dylan was among 13 recipients of this year's Medal of Freedom, this country's highest civilian honor. The awards ceremonies took place on May 29, 2012.

June 1, 2012: Paul McCartney Launches Online Remix Project
Paul McCartney is launching an online version of his home recording studio to give his fans the chance to remix some of his songs. Users can adjust the volume levels of the different instruments and play around with special effects, and McCartney will upload his favorite remixes to Soundcloud.com.
June 2, 2012: The Beach Boys Perform At The Hollywood Bowl
The Beach Boys performed at the Hollywood Bowl as part of their 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour. Jeffrey Foskett took over as the lead singer for Brian Wilson.
