During the week of January 13, 2013, President Obama remembered the oldies on the occasion of his second inauguration. The President's "Official Inauguration Playlist" included Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)," James Taylor's "Your Smiling Face," and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' "Get Ready."

Also, Black Sabbath, Boz Scaggs, and Kris Kristofferson announced their upcoming albums slated for release early this year, and a new charity compilation album for Hurricane Sandy victims is in the works. A biopic about Brian Wilson is being planned, and a documentary series about the Eagles is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival and will soon be released on DVD. Also, Black Sabbath and Bob Seger will be going on tour in 2013.


January 13, 2013: Black Sabbath Announce Latest Album

Black Sabbath announced their latest album, entitled "13," which will be released this June. This album features original band members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler, who have not recorded together since 1978. The band will be touring in New Zealand, Australia and Japan before the new album comes out.

January 14, 2013: Boz Scaggs To Release First New Album In Five Years

Boz Scaggs announced his latest album, "Memphis," which is scheduled to be released on March 5. Tracks will include covers of "Rainy Night In Georgia," "Corinna Corinna," and other long-familiar favorites. "Mixed Up Shook Up Girl," the first single from "Memphis," can be heard here.

January 15, 2013: Rolling Stone Interviews David Bowie Producer

Rolling Stone Magazine interviewed Tony Visconti who has been producing for David Bowie since 1969. In this interview, Visconti discussed Bowie's plans and most recent projects, most notably his soon-to-be-released album, "The Next Day." Visconti indicated that it was highly unlikely that Bowie would go on tour again although he might give a show from time to time if/when the spirit moves him.

January 16, 2013: Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, And Others Donate Songs To New Sandy Benefit Album

A new charity compilation album to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy, "Songs For Sandy," is in the works. Among those donating songs to this album are rock luminaries Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Joe Walsh, Eric Burdon, Jeff Lynne of ELO, and David A. Stewart (formerly with the Eurythmics).

January 17, 2013: Bob Seger And Kid Rock To Play Together

Bob Seger and Kid Rock (along with their respective bands) will be playing together in two shows this March. The shows will be taking place at the Xcel Energy Dome in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN on March 15 and at the Fargo Dome in Fargo, ND on March 16. Tickets will go on sale January 26.

January 17, 2013: Kris Kristofferson To Release New Album

Kris Kristofferson will be releasing a new album on January 29, "Feeling Mortal." This album, co-produced with longtime collaborator Don Was, contains new songs by Kristofferson in which he looks back on his life and explores his mortality.

January 17, 2013: Fleetwod Mac, Billy Joel, And Others To Perform At New Orleans Jazz Festival

Fleetwod Mac, Billy Joel, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Hall and Oates, and other big name bands and artists will be performing at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. This event will take place from April 26 to May 5 at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans. Tickets are available for $45 through January 29, after which the prices will go up. January 17, 2013: New Eagles' Documentaries Chronicle Band's Early Days

A series of two films about the Eagles will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT. "History of the Eagles, Part One" will be shown on January 19. Directed by Alison Ellwood, these documentaries tell an in-depth story of the Eagles during their early days and dispel certain myths about the band. These films will eventually be released on DVD.

January 17, 2013: Paul Dano To Play Young Brian Wilson In Biopic

A biopic about Brian Wilson, "Love and Mercy," is in the works. Directed by Bill Pohlad, this film will cover Brian Wilson's life from his time with the Beach Boys to his departure from the band and his later struggles. "Love and Mercy" will co-star Paul Dano as a young Brian Wilson.

January 18, 2013: Rare Paul McCartney Recording From 1964 Resurfaces

A few months ago, Peter Asher, formerly one half of Peter and Gordon, found an old reel-to-reel tape of Paul McCartney singing "A World Without Love." In early 1964, McCartney was living in the Asher home and he had made a demo of this song, which he wrote. The Beatles never used this song and gave it to Asher. Soon after, it went on to top the US charts for Peter and Gordon. Also on the tape is McCartney singing an early version of "I'll Follow the Sun."

January 18, 2013: President Obama's Inaugural Playlist Includes Many Classic Oldies Songs

The second inauguration of President Obama begins on January 20, 2013 in a private ceremony. The festivities, which will take place over several days, will include some of the President's favorite tunes which have been released on Spotify in an "Official Inauguration Playlist" consisting of 17 tracks from the various musical acts scheduled to perform during the festivities. Presidential oldies favorites include Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)," James Taylor's "Your Smiling Face," and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' "Get Ready."

January 19, 2013: Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, And Others Join Dave Grohl For Sundance Gig

On January 18, Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, and other top musicians performed together as the Sound City Players at the Sundance Film Festival to celebrate the premier of Dave Grohl' film, "Sound City." This film is a documentary about the music made at the Sound City recording studio and includes interviews with some of the top bands and artists who made music there. The Sound City Players will be featured on an upcoming album, "Sound City - Real to Reel."
