During the week of June 30, 2013, Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond were among the main highlights of this year's "A Capitol Fourth" Independence Day concert which was broadcast on PBS. Manilow performed several old favorites, and Diamond premiered his newly-penned "Freedom Song (They'll Never Take Us Down)."
Also that week, it was announced that a tribute will be made to the late Ritchie Havens whose ashes will be scattered over the site where the historic Woodstock festival took place. This event will take place this August.
Several classic Fleetwood Mac albums from 1969-1972 will soon be reissued on vinyl by Reprise Records. Also, a new Aerosmith rockumentary, "Rock for the Rising Sun," will soon be premiering in the UK and is also set to be released this July on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
Alice Cooper just launched a 10-date summer tour in North American which began in Windsor, Ontario. Also, KISS was slated to give a concert this month at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, but that show has been cancelled due to extensive flood damage.
"A Night With Janis Joplin," a musical based on the music and life of the late rock legend, will be coming to Broadway this September. This musical stars Mary Bridgit Davies in the title role.
Bob Dylan's electric guitar from his performance at the 1965 Newport festival will be going up for auction, along with some of his handwritten lyrics found in the guitar case.
Finally, for those who will be in the Danbury, CT area, the "Danbury Fields Forever" Beatles Music Arts & Food Festival will be taking place this August. Ten Beatles tribute bands are among the many attractions at this event.
June 30, 2013: Classic Fleetwood Mac To Be Reissued On Vinyl
Four classic Fleetwood Mac albums will soon be reissued on vinyl by Reprise Records. The 1969 album, "Then Play On," is scheduled to be released on August 20, 2013. This new reissue will include all tracks from the original album plus some previously unreleased songs. Reprise Records will also be releasing "Fleetwood Mac: 1969-72" which is a box set of four of Fleetwood Mac's albums from that time period, "Then Play On" (1969), "Kiln House" (1970), "Future Games" (1971), and "Bare Trees" (1972).

June 30, 2013: Janis Joplin Musical Coming To Broadway
"A Night With Janis Joplin," a musical based on the life and music of the late rock legend, will be coming to Broadway this fall. This musical, which stars singer Mary Bridgit Davies in the title role, begin previews on September 20, 2013 at the Lyceum Theatre.

July 1, 2013: Bob Dylan's 1965 Guitar Going To Auction
Bob Dylan's Fender Stratocaster electric guitar that he played during the 1965 Newport Folk Festival will soon be going up for auction. This historic instrument, which was the first electric guitar Dylan used in his public performances since high school, marked a turning point in his career and also sparked a lot of controversy at the time. Also included in the sale will be some handwritten lyrics by Dylan that were found in the guitar case.

July 1, 2013: Richie Havens' Ashes To Be Scattered At Woodstock Festival Site
The ashes of Richie Havens, who passed away last April, will be scattered at Max Yasgur's farm, the site where the 1969 Woodstock festival took place. This event will take place on August 18, 2013 and will be open to the public (a free ticket will be needed to get in). Havens famously opened for this historic rock festival with a set that lasted nearly three hours because the bands and artists scheduled to perform after him were stuck in traffic. That performance catapulted him into stardom.

July 3, 2013: Beatles Fans Music Festival Coming This August
The "Danbury Fields Forever" Beatles Music Arts & Food Festival will be taking place at Ives Concert Park in Danbury, CT on August 3, 2013. Ten Beatles tribute bands will be featured, music will be playing all day from noon to 8:00PM, and there will also be good food and art. July 3, 2013: Aerosmith Rockumentary To Premiere In The UK
Aerosmith's new rockumentary, "Rock for the Rising Sun," will premiere in 10 cinemas in the UK on July 16, 2013. It will also be released on July 22 through Eagle Rock Entertainment on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download. This movie covers the band's tour in Japan in the fall of 2011 during the aftermath of this country's massive earthquake.

July 5, 2013: Barry Manilow And Neil Diamond Celebrate This Year's 'Capitol Fourth' Concert
Barry Manilow And Neil Diamond were among the guest artists at this year's "Capitol Fourth" Independence Day concert held on the National Mall in Washington D.C. and televised on PBS. Manilow opened the festivities with some old familiar hits, and Diamond performed a long-time favorite, "Sweet Caroline," plus a new song he penned in tribute to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings, "Freedom Song (They'll Never Take Us Down)." Manilow closed with "Let Freedom Ring" before the audience headed off to see the fireworks.

July 6, 2013: KISS To Cancel July 13 Show In Calgary
A KISS show originally scheduled for July 13, 2013 in Calgary, Alberta at the Scotiabank Saddledome had to be cancelled due to extensive flooding damage from recent storms. July 6, 2013: Alice Cooper Launches North American Summer Tour
Alice Cooper recently launched a tour in North America which began on July 5, 2013 in Windsor, Ontario. Cooper will be performing this summer in Cincinnati, OH, Sylvania, OH, Fort Wayne, IN, Merrillville, IN, Council Bluffs, IA, Minneapolis, MN, New York City, and Albany, NY, before wrapping up his tour on July 20 in Atlantic City, NJ. He will then head off to Europe where he will be giving a series of concerts starting July 26 in Brno in the Czech Republic.
