During the week of May 12, 2013, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield brought smiles to the faces of many oldies music fans with his rendition of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" performed in outer space. David Bowie humorously replied to this unique tribute by tweeting back "Hallo Spaceboy."

Also this week, it was announced that Carole King will be honored at the White House by the Obamas with the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

Carlos Santana was recently inducted into the Las Vegas House Of Blues where he will be giving several shows through early June before starting a European tour. Paul McCartney just kicked off his "Out There" tour in Orlando. FL, and John Fogerty will be giving a concert on his birthday (May 28) in Los Angeles. Peter Frampton will be adding more shows to his upcoming Frampton's Guitar Circus Tour which will take place this summer, and Neil Young will be headlining the Interlocken 2013 Festival this September. Donovan announced three upcoming shows this fall along with the release of a new album slated for the end of this month.

The Rolling Stones will be reissuing three of their classic albums from 1968-1971 on clear vinyl later this month. Also, the Beatles' 1965 movie, "Help!", is scheduled for release on Blu-ray in late June.

Also, KISS is currently planning to open some 100 restaurants across the U.S. over the next five years, and Day One of a two-day auction of the late Andy William's massive art collection brought in a whopping $46,000,000.

Finally, Aretha Franklin had to cancel two shows originally slated for later this month for a medical treatment. No specifics regarding her treatment or medical condition are known at this time.



May 13, 2013: Canadian Astronaut Performs 'Space Oddity' In Space

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield gave a unique and highly memorable performance of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" while 230 miles above Earth to mark the end of his journey on the International Space Station. He posted a YouTube video on May 12, 2013 which has since gone viral (see video snippet above). David Bowie replied with a tweet, "Hallo Spaceboy."

May 13, 2013: Carlos Santana Inducted Into Las Vegas House Of Blues

Carlos Santana was recently inducted into the Las Vegas House of Blues. A clay bust of the legendary guitarist will be included on the Blues God Ceiling among several other busts that include those of Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jeff Beck. Santana is currently on a residency at the Las Vegas House Of Blues where he will be giving several shows through early June. Afterwards, he will be embarking on a European tour before returning to Las Vegas this fall for more shows.

May 13, 2013: Aretha Franklin Cancels Two Shows For Medical Treatment

Aretha Franklin has canceled two shows scheduled for later this month because she will be undergoing a medical treatment. The reasons for her treatment have not been disclosed. The two shows were to take place on May 20 in Chicago (with the Chicago Symphony) and on May 26 in Connecticut at the Foxwoods Resort & Casino.

May 14, 2013: John Fogerty To Give Birthday Concert In Los Angeles

John Fogerty will be giving a concert on May 28, 2013 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. This concert will be both to celebrate Fogerty's birthday and promote his latest album, "Wrote a Song for Everyone." It will be broadcast live on AXS TV at 8:30 PM PST. Tickets go on sale starting May 14 on John Fogerty's website.

May 14, 2013: Donovan To Release New Album And Go On Tour

Donovan will be releasing a new album on May 31, 2013 entitled "Shadows of Blue." He offered fans a free preview of the album's first song, "To Love You," on May 10, his 67th birthday. This song is currently streaming on SoundCloud. Another song, "The Harmonica Girl," is set to stream on May 17. Donovan will also be giving three shows this fall: one in Washington, D.C. at the Hamilton on October 6, one in New York City at the Ethical Cultural Hall on October 19, and one in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre on October 28.

May 15, 2013: Rolling Stones To Reissue Three Albums On Vinyl

The Rolling Stones will be releasing remastered versions on 180-gram clear vinyl of three of their classic albums: "Beggars Banquet" (1968), "Let It Bleed" (1969), and the double LP hits collection, "Hot Rocks 1964-1971" (1971). These albums, which are slated for release later this month, will be the first in a series by ABKCO called "The Rolling Stones Clearly Classic."

May 15, 2013: Peter Frampton Adds More Dates To Tour

Peter Frampton will be adding more shows to his upcoming Frampton's Guitar Circus Tour which begins on May 28, 2013 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and ends on August 31 at the Vina Robles Amphitheater in Paso Robles, CA. A number of legendary guest guitarists will be featured, including Vince Gill and Robert Cray, with different guitarists performing on different dates.

May 16, 2013: KISS Makes Plans To Open 100 Restaurants Across The U.S.

Paul Stanley and other KISS band members are making plans to open a chain of some 100 restaurants, known as Rock & Brews, across the U.S. within the next five years. To date, they have already opened three such establishments, including one in Los Angeles. One of their main offerings is quality rock music, plus 80 varieties of craft beer. KISS members currently have their sights set on LAX, Maui, and Kansas City, where they are planning to open their next restaurants in 2014.

May 16, 2013: Andy Williams Auction Brings In $46M

The late crooner Andy Williams, who passed away last September at age 84, had an extensive art collection which went up for auction at Christie's on May 15, 2013. On the first day of this auction, which went on for two days, Williams' art collection brought in a whopping $46,000,000.

May 17, 2013: Neil Young To Headline Interlocken 2013 Festival

Neil Young and Crazy Horse will be returning from their tour in Europe to headline the upcoming Interlocken Festival. This event will take place September 5-8, 2013 at Oak Ridge Farm in Arlington, VA. Tickets will go on sale May 23.

May 17, 2013: The Beatles' 'Help!' To Be Released On Blu-Ray

"Help!", the second feature film made by the Beatles, is slated to be released on Blu-ray June 25, 2013. This movie, which was made in 1965, is a farcical comedy in which the Fab Four meet up with an evil cult. Ringo Starr ends up with a sacrificial ring that gets stuck on his finger so that the band members have to flee for their lives.

May 17, 2013: Carole King To Receive Gershwin Prize for Popular Song

The White House announced that the Obamas will be honoring famed singer-songwriter Carole King with the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The award ceremonies will take place at a concert to be held on May 22, 2013 at the White House. Guest performers will include James Taylor, Billy Joel, and Gloria Estefan.

May 18, 2013: Paul McCartney Kicks Off 'Out There' Tour In Orlando

Paul McCartney just kicked off the North American leg of his "Out There" tour in Orlando, FL. He is scheduled to perform at Orlando's Amway Center May 18 and 19, 2013. McCartney's shows are highly elaborate productions that use a wide variety of state-of-the-art props, videos, lasers, and pyrotechnics.
