During the week of January 5, 2014, it was announced that a series of benefit concerts commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles first U.S. visit will take place in New York City starting February 6, 2014. This series will kick off with a show at the Apollo Theater featuring Lloyd Price, Gary U.S. Bonds, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and other big name oldies bands and artists who will be performing Motown and other R&B songs that the Beatles played in their early years.

Also that week, an autographed copy of the Beatles' "Love Me Do" single signed by all four members of the legendary band sold on eBay for $13,350.

Later this month, Ringo Starr will be presented with the "Lifetime of Peace and Love Award" by the David Lynch Foundation. The award ceremonies will be followed by a tribute concert for the ex-Beatle. This March, a tribute concert for Paul Simon will take place at New York's Carnegie Hall. Also, the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame will pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of live performances, educational programs, and other activities focused on how pop music is used to communicate and bring about social change.

Led Zeppelin will be re-releasing "Led Zeppelin," "Led Zeppelin II" and "Led Zeppelin III" sometime this year. These albums will be reissued as deluxe editions with much improved sound quality, and they may also include previously unreleased material.

A biopic about Gregg Allman titled "Midnight Rider" based on the famed rock and blues singer's recently published biography is currently in the works. Cast members will include William Hurt as the present-day Allman, Wyatt Russell as Duane Allman, and Tyson Ritter as a younger Gregg Allman.

The week of January 5, 2014 was a good one for David Bowie. He was among those nominated for Great Britain's prestigious BRIT Awards, and his latest album, "The Next Day," also topped the Official Record Store Chart's list of Best Selling Albums for 2013.

Finally, it was announced that the North Dakota State Historical Society will be purchasing Lawrence Welk's childhood home in Strasburg, ND. The famed late bandleader's homestead has been a longtime tourist attraction and is one of a number of sites included in the National Register of Historic Places.


January 5, 2014: Autographed Beatles' Single Sells For $13,000 On Ebay

An autographed 45rpm copy of the Beatles' "Love Me Do" b/w "P.S. I Love You" signed by all four members of the legendary band recently sold on eBay for $13,350. The seller indicated that this record was signed by the Fab Four on October 6, 1962 at a record store in England one day after it was issued.

January 5, 2014: David Bowie's 'The Next Day' Tops Official Record Store Day Chart For 2013

Topping the Official Record Store Chart's list of Best Selling Albums for 2013 is David Bowie's "The Next Day." The Official Record Store Chart is a weekly music chart based on physical sales of albums from around 100 independent record stores in the U.K.

January 6, 2014: Led Zeppelin To Reissue First Three Albums

Led Zeppelin announced that the band will begin reissuing its albums this year. The first three albums to be re-released will be "Led Zeppelin," "Led Zeppelin II" and "Led Zeppelin III." These albums will come out as deluxe editions with much improved sound quality over existing recordings. They may also include alternate versions of the band's songs and other previously unreleased material.

January 7, 2014: William Hurt To Play Gregg Allman In Upcoming Biopic

A biopic about Gregg Allman titled "Midnight Rider" based on the famed rock and blues singer's biography, "My Cross To Bear," is currently in the works. Oscar winner William Hurt has recently joined the cast to play the present-day Allman. Other cast members will include Wyatt Russell as Duane Allman and Tyson Ritter as Gregg Allman during his earlier years.

January 7, 2014: Paul Simon Tribute Concert To Take Place At Carnegie Hall This March

On March 31, 2014, a tribute concert for Paul Simon will take place at New York's Carnegie Hall. Among those who will be performing at this event are Jon Herington of Steely Dan, Bettye LaVette, and Allen Toussaint. Proceeds from this show will go to benefit various music education programs.

January 7, 2014: Ringo Starr To Be Honored By David Lynch Foundation

On January 20, 2014, Ringo Starr will be presented with the "Lifetime of Peace and Love Award" by the David Lynch Foundation. The award ceremonies will take place at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. The festivities will also include a tribute concert for Starr in which Joe Walsh and others will perform.

January 9, 2014: David Bowie Nominated For BRIT Awards

David Bowie is among those who have been nominated for Great Britain's prestigious BRIT Awards. The awards ceremonies will take place on February 19, 2014 at London's O2 Arena and broadcast live on Great Britain's iTV. Bowie was a past recipient of a BRIT Award in 1996.

January 10, 2014: North Dakota Historical Society To Buy Lawrence Welk's Boyhood Home

Famed late bandleader Lawrence Welk was born and raised in the German-speaking town of Strasburg, ND. The North Dakota State Historical Society will be purchasing Welk's childhood home. A longtime tourist attraction, this historic homestead was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
