During the week of March 2, 2014, "20 Feet From Stardom," a movie about some of rock and roll's greatest unsung female backup singers (see trailer below), won an Oscar for Best Documentary. Darlene Love, who is one of the stars and subjects of this film, accepted the award and stole the show with an impromptu performance.
Also that week, two shows of interest were announced which will be televised next month. "Bruce Springsteen's High Hopes," a documentary about the making of his latest album, will air on HBO April 4. "Women of Soul: In Performance At The White House" featuring Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, and other powerhouse artists will be shown on PBS April 7.
This April, Dave Davies will be giving a show at London's Barbican Hall to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of the Kinks first album. Bruce Springsteen will be co-headlining this year's NCAA March Madness Music Festival in Dallas, TX, and will perform as part of the festival's closing on April 6. Also, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be hosting a simulcast of the induction ceremonies which will take place April 10. The Allman Brothers will be joining the lineup for this year's Mountain Jam Festival which takes place this June. Also that month, Queen and Boston will both be launching North American tours.
This April, Neil Young will be re-releasing his 1973 live album, "Time Fades Away," as part of a four-vinyl set. This May, Carlos Santana will be releasing a new album of all Latin music titled "Corazon."
Galadrielle Allman just released a book in memory of her father titled "Please Be with Me: A Song for My Father, Duane Allman." Allman was two years old at the time of her father's death in 1971 from a motorcycle accident.
Finally, more Beatles memorabilia is set to be auctioned off this month, this time, a vintage piano used by Paul McCartney to compose "Yesterday."
March 2, 2014: '20 Feet From Stardom' Wins Best Documentary Oscar
On March 2, 2014, the Oscars were televised live on ABC. In the world of oldies music, the major highlight was "20 Feet From Stardom" which was named Best Documentary Feature. This movie takes a backstage look at some of rock and roll's greatest unsung female backup singers that include Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Tata Vega, Lisa Fischer, and many others. Darlene Love accepted the award and got a standing ovation for her stirring performance of "His Eye Is On The Sparrow."

March 2, 2014: Dave Davies To Perform At London's Barbican Hall
Dave Davies of the Kinks will be giving his first show in the UK after 13 years. He is set to perform at London's Barbican Hall on April 11, 2014. This show will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of the Kinks first album.

March 4, 2014: Duane Allman's Daughter Publishes Book In Tribute To Her Father
Galadrielle Allman, the daughter of the late and great Duane Allman, just released a book in memory of her father titled "Please Be with Me: A Song for My Father, Duane Allman." Allman, who died in 1971 at age 24 in a motorcycle crash, is considered to be one of rock's all-time best and most influential guitarists. Allman was two years old when her father passed away.
March 4, 2014: Bruce Springsteen To Co-Headline NCAA March Madness Music Festival
Bruce Springsteen will be co-headlining this year's NCAA March Madness Music Festival. This free outdoor concert will take place April 4-6, 2014 in Dallas, TX at Reunion Park. Springsteen will perform with the E Street Band on April 6 as part of the festival's closing.

March 4, 2014: Neil Young To Re-Release 'Time Fades Away'
On April 19, 2014, Neil Young is set to re-release his 1973 live album, "Time Fades Away." This album, in which Young performed with his former backing band, the Stray Gators, will be re-released as part of a limited edition four-vinyl set that will also include "On the Beach," "Tonight's The Night," and "Zuma."

March 4, 2014: Santana To Release All Latin Music Album
On May 6, 2014, Carlos Santana will be releasing a new album of all Latin music titled "Corazon." Numerous guest artists from the U.S., Latin America, and Spain are featured on this album, including Gloria Estefan, Pitbull, Juanes, and Romeo Santos.

March 5, 2014: Beatles Piano To Be Auctioned Off
A piano used by Paul McCartney to compose "Yesterday" will be coming up for auction March 14, 2014 in Liverpool, England. This historic piano, a Bechstein Concert Grand dating back to 1907, is expected to bring in £50,000 (about $83,630). It was also used in the1965 Beatles movie, "Help!".

March 5, 2014: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame To Host Simulcast Of Induction Ceremonies
For those who cannot make it to New York's Barclays Center, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be hosting a simulcast of this year's induction ceremonies which will take place April 10, 2014. This event will be broadcast on a 12-foot screen on the Museum's Main Stage and also on several other large screens throughout. Tickets go on sale starting March 10 at rockhall.com.

March 6, 2014: Queen To Launch North American Tour
Queen will be touring North America with Adam Lambert starting June 19, 2014 at Chicago's United Center. This tour will end on July 20 in Washington, DC, and will also cover various other cities in California, Nevada, Texas, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and several Canadian provinces. Boston announced an upcoming North American tour for this summer to support the band's latest album, "Life, Love and Hope." Besides Florida and Illinois, this tour will also cover various cities in Tennessee, Missouri, Georgia, Texas, Michigan, New York, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, plus Toronto, Ontario.
