During the week of January 1, 2017, Neil Diamond scored his 38th Top 10 hit on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart with "The Christmas Medley" from his recently-released "Acoustic Christmas" album.
Also that week, the City of Los Angeles celebrated the 50th anniversary of the release of "The Doors," the band's landmark debut album (see video below).
John Fogerty announced a new Las Vegas residency to take place at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas beginning this March. Billy Joel announced a series of shows for this year at several baseball parks around the country that kicks off this April at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, GA. Dave Davies added four more U.S. show dates for this April to his 2017 itinerary. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will co-headline this year's BottleRock Napa Valley Festival in Napa, CA which takes place this May. Also, Chicago and The Doobie Brothers announced a joint North American tour that begins this June.
As part of Rhino's 2017 edition of its "Start Your Ear Off Right" campaign, various limited-edition vinyl discs by such bands and artists as Iron Butterfly, Yes, Foreigner, The Cars, and Cheap Trick will be offered at select stores across the country starting later this month. A new David Bowie limited-edition vinyl picture disc will be coming out this February with two versions of his 1977 song, "Sound And Vision." Also, a deluxe edition of The Doors' 1967 self-titled debut album is due out this March.
Also that week, it was announced that a deluxe Blu-ray edition of the David Bowie 1976 sci-fi classic, "The Man Who Fell To Earth," will be coming out later this month.

January 4, 2017 was officially proclaimed "The Day Of The Doors" by the City of Los Angeles to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of the band's self-titled debut album. January 3, 2017: New David Bowie Vinyl Picture Disc To Be Released
A new David Bowie limited-edition vinyl picture disc will be coming out on February 10, 2017 with two versions of the late rock icon's 1977 song, "Sound And Vision." On the A side is a newly remastered version of the original song that includes backing vocals by Brian Eno and Mary Hopkin. On the other side is a previously unreleased 2013 remix by Sonjay Prabhakar used in a recent Sony Experia Z smartphone commercial that includes Bowie's original lead vocals and Hopkin's backing vocals with a new piano accompaniment.
January 3, 2017: Chicago And Doobie Brothers To Launch Joint Tour
Chicago and The Doobie Brothers announced an upcoming joint tour that will take the two bands across the U.S. and parts of Canada. This 31-date trek begins on June 7, 2017 in Concord, CA and ends on July 30 in Virginia Beach, VA, with additional stops in California and Virginia, as well as in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas, plus Ontario, Canada. Chicago and The Doobie Brothers have toured together in the past, most recently in 2012.

January 4, 2017: 50th Anniversary Edition Of Doors Debut Album To Be Released
On January 4, 2017, The Doors' self-titled debut album turns 50, and in celebration, a deluxe edition will be coming out on March 30. Titled "The Doors: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition," this collection includes remastered versions on CD of the original album in both mono and stereo, plus a vinyl LP version and a CD of a concert that the band gave on March 7, 1967 at The Matrix in San Francisco. The Doors' original debut album, which has won numerous awards and accolades over the years, includes such classics as "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" and the band's signature song, "Light My Fire."

January 4, 2017: Blu-ray Version Of 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' To Be Released
The 1976 David Bowie movie, "The Man Who Fell To Earth," will be coming out January 24, 2017 on Blu-ray as a deluxe Limited Collector's Edition. Besides a remastered version of this movie, this package will also include new artwork, booklets, art cards, a poster, and previously unseen interviews with Bowie, actress Candy Clark, and others involved in the making of this sci-fi classic.

January 4, 2017: John Fogerty Announces New Las Vegas Residency
John Fogerty announced a new Las Vegas residency to take place at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas. January 5, 2017: Dave Davies Announces More Concert Dates
Dave Davies of The Kinks announced four more U.S. show dates for this April to take place in New York City, Milwaukee, WI, and Natick, MA. So far, seven concerts in total have been confirmed, with more expected to be announced soon.

Billy Joel announced a series of shows for this year at several baseball parks around the country. This upcoming trek begins on April 28, 2017 at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, GA, to be followed by shows at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA (May 13), Madison Square Garden, New York, NY (May 25), Progressive Field, Cleveland, OH (July 14), Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL (August 11), Fenway Park, Boston, MA (August 30), and Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA (September 9).
