During the week of May 14, 2017, it was announced that the electric guitar Jimi Hendrix played at the historic Monterey International Pop Music Festival will go to auction this June, with bidding to start at $500,000.
The Beach Boys recently added a series of more than 70 U.S. concerts to their itinerary. After touring Europe this spring, the band will return to the U.S. in late June to launch this new trek.
An archival Dan Fogelberg album titled "Live At Carnegie Hall" capturing a 1979 concert at this famous NYC venue was recently released. Also, The Cars announced the re-release of expanded versions of two classic albums, "Candy-O" (1979) and "Panorama" (1980), which are due out in July.
Also that week, R&B legend Bill Withers was among those to be honored at the U.K.'s prestigious Ivor Novello Awards ceremonies in London. It was also announced that Neil Young will be inducted into this year's Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Finally, Paul McCartney will make a cameo appearance in "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" which premieres May 26, 2017.

May 14, 2017: The Cars To Re-Release Two Classic Albums
The Cars announced the re-release of expanded versions of "Candy-O" and "Panorama." Both albums, which are due out on July 28, 2017, will feature all original album songs plus previously unreleased bonus tracks. Originally released in 1979, "Candy-O" includes the hits, "Let's Go" and "It's All I Can Do." "Panorama" peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 in 1980, the year of its release, and it includes the hit, "Touch And Go."

May 15, 2017: Paul McCartney To Appear In 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' Sequel
Paul McCartney will make a cameo appearance in "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," the fifth installment in the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" series coming out on May 26, 2017. A poster featuring a bearded McCartney dressed as a pirate has been released on Twitter. Although his role has not yet been officially announced, E! Online has reported that he will play a prison guard.

May 15, 2017: New Archival Dan Fogelberg Album Released
An archival album capturing a Dan Fogelberg concert from 1979 at NYC's Carnegie Hall was recently released as a 2-CD set. Titled "Live At Carnegie Hall," this 26-track collection features such early hits by the late singer/songwriter as "Same Old Lang Syne" and "Part Of The Plan." For more info, visit DanFogelberg.com.

May 17, 2017: The Beach Boys Add More Concerts To 2017 Wild Honey World Tour
The Beach Boys announced an extended series of new U.S. concerts starting this summer as part of the band's 2017 Wild Honey World Tour which kicks off this week at London's Royal Albert Hall. After touring Europe, the band will return to the U.S. to launch this new leg of over 70 concerts that begin on June 30, 2017 in New Buffalo, MI and end on November 19 in North Tonawanda, NY. May 17, 2017: Historic Jimi Hendrix Guitar To Go To Auction
The electric guitar Jimi Hendrix played at the 1967 Monterey International Pop Music Festival will go to auction on June 17-18, 2017 at Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills, CA. These auction dates also mark the 50th anniversary of this historic music fest where Hendrix wowed the audience with never-before-heard guitar sounds. Online biding for this rare instrument will open on May 29 starting at $500,000.

May 18, 2017: Bill Withers Honored At UK's Ivor Novello Awards
R&B legend Bill Withers and electronic music pioneer Gary Numan were among those to receive honors at the U.K.'s prestigious Ivor Novello Awards held on May 18, 2017 in London. Withers was presented the Special International Award which is given to a songwriter from outside of the U.K. who has had a major influence on the British music industry. Best known for his 1979 hit, "Cars," Numan was presented with the Ivors Inspiration Award given to those whose work has sparked the creativity of other artists. For more info, visit TheIvors.com.

Neil Young is among those to be inducted into this year's Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. The ceremonies will take place September 23, 2017 at Massey Hall in Toronto.
