James Taylor makes chart history with “American Standard” https://t.co/UiPfoeAer0
— billboard (@billboard) March 9, 2020
During the week of March 8, 2020, James Taylor made Billboard chart history as the first artist to score at least one Top 10 album in each of the last six decades. His latest album, "American Standard," debuted at no. 4 on the Billboard 200 album chart, making this his 13th Top 10 album to date.
Also that week, it was announced that this year's Record Store Day has been postponed to June 20 as a precautionary measure against the further spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. This event, originally scheduled to take place on April 18 at numerous record stores across the country, will feature vinyl recordings by Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and many other veteran oldies acts.
The 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, originally scheduled for May 2, will also be moved to some later date to be announced, along with the Induction Week festivities which were supposed to take place at various Cleveland, OH venues. These activities are among the latest additions to a growing list of music- and entertainment-related public events such as tours, concerts, and film festivals that have been either postponed or cancelled due to the coronavirus.
Also that week, it was announced that "The Beatles: Get Back," a new documentary by director Peter Jackson, will make its theatrical debut on September 4, 2020. This film revisits the Fab Four's last days during the making of the album, "Let It Be," and features their final concert on the rooftop of Apple Corps headquarters on Savile Row in London.
Finally, disco great Gloria Gaynor shows us how to "survive" the coronavirus epidemic in a funny and uplifting hand-washing video in which she demonstrates the proper procedure per CDC recommendations while her rousing 1978 smash, "I Will Survive," plays in the background.
