Allbutforgottenoldies.net Music News Digest: Week Of October 10, 2021

October 17, 2021 by Amy Gold

During the week of October 10, 2021, Elton John continued his recent run of milestones on the pop charts when he marked his 50th year on the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 with "Cold Heart," a collaboration with U.K. pop star Dua Lipa that is a mashup of four songs. With this smash, the veteran pop legend topped the U.K. Singles Chart for the first time in 16 years, and he became the first act to score a Top 10 hit on that chart in six different decades.

Also that week, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced that this year's inductees will be honored at a ceremony to be held October 30, 2021 in Cleveland, OH. In addition, a special exhibit will open October 24 at the Rock Hall museum featuring items from all members of the class of 2021 that include such veteran acts as Carole King, Kraftwerk, Todd Rundgren, and Tina Turner.

The first official trailer was released for the upcoming documentary, "The Beatles: Get Back." This three-part series, which will premiere on Disney+ over a three-day period beginning November 25, 2021, was created from previously-unseen audio and footage recorded in January 1969 during the making of what would become The Beatles' final album, "Let It Be."

Finally, the estate of the late David Bowie announced a year-long celebration to commemorate what would have been the rock legend's 75th birthday. Dubbed "Bowie 75," this campaign will kick off on October 25, 2021 with the opening of two themed stores in London and New York which will remain open through January 2022. The New York store will be located at 150 Wooster Street, and the London store at 14 Heddon Street where the cover of Bowie's album, "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars," was shot.
