October 10, 2021 by Amy Gold

During the week of October 3, 2021, Guinness World Records announced that Tony Bennett set a new record as the oldest performer to release an album of new material with "Love For Sale," recorded with Lady Gaga. The 95-year-old pop legend previously broke a record in 2014 as the oldest artist to reach No. 1 on the U.S. Album Chart with another Lady Gaga collaboration, "Cheek To Cheek."

Also that week, John Lennon's "Imagine" was certified triple Platinum by the RIAA for sales of three million units in the U.S. on October 9, 2021, the day the late rock legend would have turned 81. This beloved peace anthem and album of the same name were released 50 years ago this past September.

Ringo Starr teamed up with over 100 other drummers for a new version of the 1969 Beatles smash, "Come Together," in support of the WhyHunger charity's mission to end hunger around the world. Dubbed "Drum Together," this single also features Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge, Cindy Blackman Santana of Santana, Simon Kirke of Bad Company, Todd Sucherman of Styx, Max Weinberg of The E Street Band, and Alan White of Yes.

Tina Turner sold the rights to her music catalog to music publishing company BMG. This deal, estimated at over $50 million, also includes the R&B legend's share of her recordings, her music publishing writer's share, and her name, image, and likeness. Turner's extensive catalog, which spans some six decades, includes such classic songs as "What's Love Got To Do With It" and "The Best."

Also that week, a trailer was released for the new documentary, "Ants," which features a passage from Steinbeck's "The Grapes Of Wrath" read aloud by Bruce Springsteen. This upcoming movie focuses on the plight of African and Asian migrants trying to make their way to Europe in search of a better life.

Finally, a post office in Detroit, MI, located at 12711 E. Jefferson Ave., was renamed in honor of late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. Legislation for this name change was introduced last year in the House of Representatives by Michigan Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence, a close friend of Franklin's, which was signed into law by then-President Donald Trump in January 2021.
