During the week of September 12, 2021, Rolling Stone announced its first update since 2004 to its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, with Aretha Franklin's "Respect" now topping this list. Other songs by veteran acts to rank in the top 10 include Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" (no. 3), Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" (no. 4), Marvin's Gaye's "What's Going On" (no. 6), The Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever" (no. 7), and Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" (no. 9).
Also that week, ABBA's all-time favorite 1992 compilation album, "Gold: Greatest Hits," re-emerged in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 in the wake of the group's recent release of the singles, "Don't Shut Me Down" and "I Still Have Faith In You," from their upcoming album, "Voyage." In addition, the veteran Swedish pop group scored its first Top 10 hit in almost 40 years on the Official U.K. Singles chart with "Don't Shut Me Down." ABBA's other new song, "I Still Have Faith In You," made its debut on that chart at #14.
Other veteran bands to hit the charts include Earth, Wind & Fire with "You Want My Love" making the Adult R&B Top 10 and Iron Maiden with its latest album, "Senjutsu," entering the Billboard 200 at #3.
Record Store Day announced its list of offerings for this year's Black Friday event taking place November 26. Also that week, it was announced that an updated version of The Doors' "Live At The Bowl '68" will be shown on November 4, 2021 in select theaters to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the band's classic album, "L.A. Woman."
