April 10, 2022 by Amy Gold

During the week of April 3, 2022, the 64th Annual Grammy Awards took place in Las Vegas and were aired live on CBS. Among the winners were Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga for "Love For Sale," which received the award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Also, George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass - 50th Anniversary Edition" and "Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 1 - The Early Years (1963-1967)" were named Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package and Best Historical Album, respectively. In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a surprise appearance at the awards ceremonies via a pre-taped video and delivered a powerful message about the cost of freedom and the healing power of music.

Pink Floyd came out of retirement in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine to produce their first new music since 1994. The legendary English rock band teamed up with Ukrainian rock singer Andriy Khlyvnyuk to record "Hey Hey Rise Up," which uses a recent Instagram post of Khlyvnyuk giving an a capella performance of the 1914 protest anthem, "The Red Viburnum In The Meadow," while standing in Sofiyskaya Square in Kyiv. In addition to Khlyvnyuk as lead vocalist, the lineup for this new song includes Pink Floyd founding drummer Nick Mason, longtime member/guitarist David Gilmour, longtime touring bassist Guy Pratt, and keyboardist Nitin Sawhney. Proceeds from the single will go to Ukrainian Humanitarian Relief.

Also that week, it was announced that Paul McCartney's original handwritten lyrics for "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" will be going to auction on Momentsintime.com with an opening bid of $450,000. The last time these lyrics changed hands was in 2006 when they sold for $192,000.
