During the week of August 7, 2022, the world bade a final farewell to beloved pop superstar Olivia Newton-John (September 26 1948 - August 8, 2022) and famed singer-songwriter Lamont Dozier (June 16, 1941 - August 8, 2022) who was one-third of the legendary songwriting team, Holland-Dozier-Holland, that helped define the Motown sound of the 1960s.
Also that week, The Cowsills, the family pop group famous for such era-defining classics as "The Rain, The Park & Other Things" (1967) and "Hair" (1969), announced their first new album in over 30 years which is due out on September 30. Titled "Rhythm Of The World," this 11-track collection features all-new songs mostly written by group members. Formed in 1965 as a septet, The Cowsills are now a trio consisting of siblings Bob, Paul, and Susan Cowsill who are all original members.
Elton John recently teamed up with Britney Spears for a remix of his 1972 hit, "Tiny Dancer," retitled as "Hold Me Closer," which can be heard on umusic.com. Also, Ronald Isley of The Isley Brothers recorded a new song with Beyonce, "Make Me Say It Again, Girl," which is due out August 12 as a digital single on various streaming platforms.
Also that week, AXS TV announced its upcoming "Music's Greatest Mysteries," a new investigative series that delves into various myths and legends in music history. The first episode, to air August 24, will focus on the death of founding Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones.
