Allbutforgottenoldies.net Music News Digest: Week Of February 20, 2022

February 27, 2022 by Amy Gold

During the week of February 20, 2022, Elton John was flying from England to New York City for a concert at Madison Square Garden when his private jet was forced to make an emergency landing about an hour after takeoff due to a technical failure. Although reportedly shaken by the ordeal, he boarded another flight to New York several hours later and made it safely to the Big Apple.

Also that week, Elton John scored another chart milestone with "Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)" when it reached its 10th non-consecutive week at #1 on Australia's ARIA Singles Chart. This international smash, a mashup of four classic Elton John songs performed as a duet with pop star Dua Lipa, topped the U.K. and other charts worldwide in late 2021 and also became a Top 10 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year.

"A Beautiful Noise," a new musical based on Neil Diamond's life and career featuring various classics from his extensive song catalog, will make its pre-Broadway premiere June 21-31, 2022 in Boston, MA at the city's Emerson Colonial Theatre. Also that week, A&E announced a new James Brown docuseries that is in the works and expected out sometime in 2023. Produced by Mick Jagger and the Roots' Questlove and Black Thought, "James Brown: Say it Loud" covers the life and career of the late Godfather of Funk and features never-before-seen archival footage and interviews.

Finally, the estate of Charlie Daniels sold a portion of the late country legend's catalog to Bob Frank Entertainment (BFE). The deal, which includes such classics as "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" and "The South's Gonna Do It (Again)," makes BFE an equal partner in Daniels' Blue Hat Records along with the estate.
