During the week of January 23, 2022, it was announced that Bob Dylan sold his entire recorded music catalog to Sony Music Entertainment, as well as the rights to various future releases. Dylan and Sony will continue to work together on archival recordings for his Bootleg Series and other projects.
Also that week, Elton John was forced to postpone two concerts in Dallas, TX after finally re-launching his long-delayed "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour because of recently testing positive for COVID. A new exhibit inspired by the recent docuseries, "The Beatles: Get Back," will open March 18 at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. "The Beatles And India," a documentary that explores the influence of Indian music and culture on the band's music, will begin streaming February 15 on BritBox. This film, which includes recordings, pictures, and interviews, also covers The Beatles' role in popularizing Indian culture and Transcendental Meditation after their trip to India in 1968 to study with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
Also that week, it was announced that "Music, Money, Madness...Jimi Hendrix In Maui," a 2020 documentary featuring two 1970 shows that the Jimi Hendrix Experience played in Hawaii, will be shown in select U.S. theaters starting February 1 in Buffalo, NY, Oklahoma City, OK, Tacoma, WA, and various California cities. In addition, another new Jimi Hendrix documentary, "Ronnie's," which covers the late guitar legend's last-ever performances taking place at Ronnie Scott's in London, will open February 11 in select theaters and available on-demand.
Finally, Spotify granted Neil Young's request to stop streaming his music per his stand on not wanting to share the platform with a popular podcast he has accused of spreading misinformation about the pandemic and vaccines. Joni Mitchell and Nils Lofgren also became among a growing number of musicians to follow suit.
