Allbutforgottenoldies.net Music News Digest: Week Of January 9, 2022

January 16, 2022 by Amy Gold

During the week of January 9, 2022, Elton John scored a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 24 years with "Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)," a duet performed with Dua Lipa which topped many charts worldwide. His last Top 10 entry on that tally was in 1998 with "Something About The Way You Look Tonight - Candle In The Wind 1997."

Also that week, America and Paul Rodgers of Free and Bad Company became among a growing number of veteran bands and artists who have sold some or all of their music publishing rights over the past 1-2 years. Primary Wave acquired the rights to the music catalogue of America co-founders Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell which includes such classics as "A Horse With No Name," "Sister Golden Hair," "Tin Man," and "Ventura Highway." The music publishing company's deal with Rodgers includes a stake in the Free and Bad Company catalogues as well as master recording income streams from both bands. Free is best known for the Andy Fraser/Paul Rodgers-penned 1970 smash, "All Right Now," and Bad Company had a string of hits also written or co-written by Rodgers that includes "Feel Like Makin' Love," "Shooting Star," and "Wishing Well."

Finally, The Rolling Stones will be commemorated with a new collection of stamps in the U.K. in celebration of their 60th anniversary. Twelve different stamps featuring the British rock legends at various stages of their career will be released on January 20, 2022. Eight stamps capture various live performances in concert while on tour in different cities. Two stamps feature photos of the band's four core members, and the remaining two include images of posters from various tours. For more info, visit RoyalMail.com.
