Music News Digest: Week Of July 24, 2022

July 31, 2022 by Amy Gold

During the week of July 24, 2022, Joni Mitchell gave a rare public performance at this year's Newport Folk Festival when she made a surprise appearance at a tribute in her honor led by Brandi Carlile. The legendary singer-songwriter provided lead vocals for such classics as "Both Sides Now" and "The Circle Game" and played guitar on her 1974 song, "Just Like A Train."

Also that week, Ozzy Osbourne's new single, "Patient Number 9," topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, making this his fourth #1 on that tally. This smash, which features guest artist Jeff Beck, is the title track to Osbourne's upcoming 13th solo album due out on September 9.

"Hung Up On A Dream," a new documentary about The Zombies, is currently in the works and expected out sometime around mid 2023. This upcoming film covers the famed British Invasion band's 60-year history from their peak in commercial fame in the 1960s through their reunion and 2019 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
