During the week of June 26, 2022, Ringo Starr announced his upcoming "Peace & Love" celebration to take place July 7 on his 82nd birthday. As has been an annual tradition since 2008, the good-natured former Beatle is asking fans to participate on this day by saying or thinking "peace and love" or flashing a peace sign at noon local time. This year, Artemis Music Space Network, with the International Space Station, will transmit Starr's message across the planet and into Earth's orbit and outer space.
Also that week, Paul McCartney was among a number of celebrities to appear on "Ukraine: Answering The Call" which aired July 3 on NBC and MSNBC. This TV special, which aims to raise awareness and funds for the victims of Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine, featured speeches by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Andriy Yermak, the Head of the Presidential Administration.
Jeff Beck, who rose to fame in the 1960s as a member of The Yardbirds before fronting his own band, set a record on Billboard as the featured artist on the title track to Ozzy Osbourne's newly-released "Patient Number 9." With this song debuting at #20 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, Beck, who plays the guitar solo, became the most recent artist with the longest gap between appearances on that tally. His last entry came in 1994 with Seal on a cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Manic Depression."
Frank Zappa's entire song publishing and recording catalog, his film archives, and the full contents of his storage facility have been acquired by Universal Music Group from the Zappa Trust overseen by the late rocker's four children. UMG's catalog and music-publishing companies will also continue their ongoing partnership with the Zappa Trust which began 10 years ago when Zappa's late wife was the overseer at that time.
The music of Crosby, Stills & Nash made a return to Spotify six months after they had their songs taken off the platform. In early 2022, the folk rock group joined Joni Mitchell and a number of other artists to boycott Spotify in protest to the company's distribution deal with podcaster Joe Rogan who was accused of spreading false information on his program regarding COVID-19 and vaccines.
Finally, June 30, 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the original release of Alice Cooper's fifth studio album, "School's Out," which features the shock rocker's 1972 smash title track and signature song. Also turning 50 this week (on July 1) is The Doobie Brothers' "Toulouse Street" which includes the hits, "Listen To The Music" and "Jesus Is Just Alright," along with the classic rock staple, "Rockin' Down The Highway."
