Music News Digest: Week Of November 20, 2022

During the week of November 20, 2022, it was announced that the 45th Annual Kennedy Center Honors, to take place December 4 at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C., will be broadcast December 28 on CBS. Gladys Knight and Irish rock band U2 are among this year's honorees.

Also that week, Bruce Springsteen's latest album, "Only The Strong Survive," debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200, making this his 22nd Top 10 record on this chart to date. This album also topped theĀ BillboardĀ Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts, and Springsteen is now tied with John Mayer for having the most #1s on these tallies. "Only The Strong Survive" features covers of such soul classics as "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)," "Nightshift," and "Don't Play That Song," as well as the album's title track.

Also, Variety announced that Elton John is among those to be honored at its annual Hitmakers celebration which pays tribute to artists with the 25 most-consumed songs of the past year. With Dua Lipa, the Rocket Man will be named as Hitmakers of the Year for their disco-pop smash duet, "Cold Heart-PNAU Remix," which topped numerous charts in the U.S. and worldwide.
