During the week of April 23, 2023, the world bade a final farewell to Harry Belafonte, a celebrated and award-winning singer, songwriter, and actor who popularized calypso music during the 1950s with such hits as "Banana Boat (Day-O)" and was a key figure during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
HBO announced the premiere of "Love To Love You, Donna Summer," a new documentary about the Queen of Disco to air May 20, 2023. This upcoming movie takes an in-depth look at her career from her start in Germany's avant-garde music scene through her rise to international fame.
Also that week, trailers were released for two other upcoming documentaries, "Have You Got It Yet?" and "Bob Marley: One Love." The first film, which chronicles Syd Barrett's career as a member of Pink Floyd, opens May 15, 2023 in the U.K. and will premiere in the U.S. sometime in late June. The second movie, which covers the late reggae legend's life and career, is set to premiere in theaters January 12, 2024.
