During the week of January 29, 2023, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its nominees for 2023. Among the contenders are Iron Maiden, Willie Nelson, The Spinners, and Warren Zevon. The winners will be revealed in May, with the induction ceremony to take place sometime this fall. Fans can cast their votes through April 28 at rockhall.com.
Also that week, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young landed at #20 on Billboard's Artist 100 chart in the wake of David Crosby's recent passing. In addition, two of the group's albums made a return to the Billboard 200: "Deja Vu," originally released in 1970, and "Greatest Hits," released in 2005.
Elton John broke the record on Billboard for the highest-grossing tour of all time with his current and final trek, "Farewell Yellow Brick Road." This massive world tour, which is set to end this summer in Europe, has, so far, taken in a whopping $817.9 million across 278 shows.
Janis Ian took home two honors at the International Folk Music Awards which took place on January 31, 2023 in Kansas City, MO. The famed singer-songwriter received the Elaine Weissman Lifetime Achievement Award and was also named Artist of the Year.
Also that week, it was announced that "Home Again: Carole King Live In Central Park" will start streaming February 9, 2023 on The Coda Collection via Amazon Prime. This upcoming documentary covers King's homecoming concert that took place on May 26, 1973 at the Great Lawn in New York City's Central Park.
Finally, Linda Ronstadt's 1970 smash, "Long, Long Time," was featured in the soundtrack to the third episode of the HBO series, "The Last Of Us," which aired on January 29, 2023. The first in a long string of solo Top 40 hits for Ronstadt after having served as lead singer for the Stone Poneys, this classic romantic ballad also earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Female Vocal Performance.
