During the week of July 16, 2023, the world bade a final farewell to Tony Bennett (August 3, 1926 - July 21, 2023) famous for "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" (1962) and other traditional pop and jazz favorites. Over his eight-decades-long career, the legendary crooner made a stunning comeback during the early 1990s and gained a new and devoted following with younger audiences while maintaining his original musical style and repertoire.
Also that week, Queen was honored with a BRIT Billion Award for surpassing one billion streams in the U.K. The award was presented by BPI which represents the U.K.'s record labels and music companies and is responsible for the Brit Awards.
"Have You Got It Yet? The Story Of Syd Barrett And Pink Floyd," a new documentary about the band's original co-founder, made its theatrical premiere in New York on July 14 and Los Angeles on July 21, 2023, with more cities to be announced.
Finally, Billboard data reveal Elton John's hugely popular "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour to be the highest grossing trek in history, with earnings of $989.1 million and six million tickets sold at over 330 concerts worldwide. The Rocketman has also established himself as the highest-grossing solo artist to date in the nearly-four-decades history of the Billboard Boxscore chart, with earnings of almost two billion dollars and some 21 million tickets sold.
