Allbutforgottenoldies.net Music News Digest: Week Of July 30, 2023

August 6, 2023 by Amy Gold

During the week of July 30, 2023, Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" was voted the greatest acoustic song of all time in a recent poll by Total Guitar. Coming in at numbers 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively, were Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here," The Eagles' "Hotel California," Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven," and The Beatles' "Blackbird."

Also that week, it was reported that Cher sold her interest in her past recordings and in songs she has written to Iconic Artists Group run by Irving Azoff. Azoff also acquired the controlling interest in the catalog, name, and likeness of his old college friend, Dan Fogelberg, who passed away in 2007. Fogelberg and Azoff left the University of Illinois together in the early 1970s and headed to Los Angeles where Azoff became one of rock music's most powerful managers, guiding the careers of Fogelberg, The Eagles, Steely Dan, and more.

Finally, a podcast titled "Stones Touring Party" was posted on iHeart.com that covers The Rolling Stones' famous 1972 U.S. tour. This broadcast is based on "S.T.P.: A Journey Through America With The Rolling Stones," a book by Robert Greenfield of Rolling Stone magazine who carried out over 60 hours of interviews with the band.
