Allbutforgottenoldies.net Music News Digest: Week Of June 11, 2023

June 19, 2023 by Amy Gold

During the week of June 11, 2023, it was announced that Chicago and Belinda Carlisle of The Go-Go's are among the featured performers at the upcoming PBS special, "A Capitol Fourth," to air live July 4.

Also that week, Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" joined Spotify's Billions Club and became John Fogerty's second song to reach this milestone following "Have You Ever Seen The Rain," which reached 1 billion streams in March on this platform.

Elton John's hugely popular Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour landed at #2 on Billboard Boxscore's 2023 midyear charts, bringing in $138.2 million from 32 shows between November 1, 2022, and April 30, 2023. This trek previously topped the midyear charts in 2019 and 2020 and also held the top spot on the monthly chart seven times, the most of any other touring act.

Finally, a lyric sheet with Freddie Mercury's handwritten notes for Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" reveals that the song was nearly titled "Mongolian Rhapsody" and also includes some unused verses. These lyrics are among the over 1,500 items to be auctioned at Sotheby's later this month at the Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own event.
