Allbutforgottenoldies.net Music News Digest: Week Of March 26, 2023

April 2, 2023 by Amy Gold

During the week of March 26, 2023, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles announced "The Power Of Song - A Songwriters Hall Of Fame Exhibit" that features such luminaries as Lamont Dozier, Carole King, Henry Mancini, Smokey Robinson, and Nile Rodgers. This exhibit launches on April 26 at the Grammy Museum and will run through September 4.

The royalty rights and catalog of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Bob Burns were acquired by Primary Wave Music. The late band co-founder and drummer is credited on Lynyrd Skynyrd's first two albums that include such classics as "Free Bird," "Sweet Home Alabama," and "Simple Man."

Also that week, "What The Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears?" opened in theaters in New York and Los Angeles and has since then expanded to other cities in the U.S. and Canada. This documentary features interviews and archival footage from the ill-fated 1970 State Department-sponsored tour of various then-Iron Curtain countries that the band reluctantly agreed to embark, eventually resulting in their suffering political backlash from both the right and the left.
