Allbutforgottenoldies.net Music News Digest: Week Of May 21, 2023

May 28, 2023 by Amy Gold

During the week of May 21, 2023, the world bade a final farewell to R&B legend Tina Turner whose long string of hits, which also spans pop, rock, soul, and other genres, includes such classics as "Proud Mary," "What's Love Got To Do With It," and "The Best." She first rose to fame during the 1960s as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue and became a superstar after her comeback in the early 1980s.

Among the many who paid tribute to Turner was "Proud Mary" songwriter John Fogerty who dedicated his performance of this song to the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll at a concert at the AO Arena in Manchester, England.

Also that week, the National Rhythm & Blues Hall Of Fame announced this year's inductees that include such veteran artists as Ruby Andrews, Hall & Oates, Thelma Houston, New Edition, and Dee Dee Sharp. The awards ceremonies will take place September 24, 2023 at the Bridge Center in Detroit, MI.
