Al Hibbler

ABOUT

Al Hibbler (August 16, 1915 - April 24, 2001, b. Albert George Hibbler) was a traditional pop singer with clear baritone vocals and a flair for jazz and R&B who became famous during the mid and late 1950s. He is best known for his smash rendition of "Unchained Melody" (1955), the title theme to the prison movie, "Unchained" (1955), which was later immortalized by The Righteous Brothers. Hibbler's version of this extensively-covered pop standard, which topped the R&B charts, made the Pop/Rock Top 5, and became a million-seller, was one of four versions to make the U.S. charts in 1955, the year of the release of "Unchained." Hibbler's other big hits include "He" (1955), "11th Hour Melody" (1956), "Never Turn Back" (1956), and "After The Lights Go Down Low" (1956).
