ABOUT

Al Jolson (May 26, 1886 - October 23, 1950, b. Asa Yoelson) was a celebrated singer, comedian, actor, and vaudevillian with a dynamic performing style who became famous beginning in the 1910s. His long string of hits from 1912-1948 includes such signature songs as "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody" (1918), "Swanee" (1920), "April Showers" (1922), "California, Here I Come" (1924), and "I'm Sitting On Top Of The World" (1926). Best remembered today as the star of the first talking picture, "The Jazz Singer" (1927), he went on to star in a series of successful movie musicals throughout the 1930s and 1940s.
