Anton Karas (July 7, 1906 - January 10, 1985) was an Austrian zither player and composer who became famous during the early 1950s. He is best known internationally for the enduringly popular and chart-topping instrumental, "The Third Man Theme" (1950), the title song to the 1949 film noir starring Joseph Cotten, Trevor Howard, Alida Valli, and Orson Welles.
